Kunal Kohli praises Rakesh Bedi in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’; Says, ‘It’s sad that for so many years he didn’t get his due’ | Hindi Movie News
‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is showing huge power at the box office even though several new releases have hit the big screens after that. ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has emerged as one of the biggest earners of the year. Director Kunal Kohli recently shared insightful views on the making of the hit film ‘Dhurandhar’. The seasoned director spoke about the strong treatment given to every role in the project. He pointed out how supporting actors received substantial space to shine.
Kunal Kohli praises the character depth
Talking to Faridoon Shahryar, Kunal shared, “If you look at the first part of Dhurandhar, every character has been treated like a superstar. Of course, in Part 2 it’s Ranveer Singh all the way, but the fact that someone like Rakesh Bedi has been presented with such belief is remarkable. It’s sad that for so many years he didn’t get his due, but it’s wonderful that he finally has—he’s become an overnight sensation, an overnight star. The beauty is he was always there, always doing wonderful work, but his breakthrough has happened now, and he truly deserves it.”He added, “It comes down to detailing and letting characters breathe, letting them have their moments. In Sholay, you had Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra—the biggest superstars of that time—yet actors like Asrani and Jagdeep were given their moments to shine. That’s true filmmaking. The biggest lesson from Dhurandhar is to let the director do their job and not be insecure—because the more other characters flourish, the more the film benefits.”Kohli concluded, “Everyone has benefited—Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi—but of course the hero is Ranveer Singh, so he gets the most visibility. That said, it’s not just about the actors or the film; when movies do massive business, it benefits the entire industry. When films do massive business—like crossing 2000 crore within a few months—it’s a win for the whole industry.””
Blockbuster status of the Ranveer Singh starrer
‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has raced past Rs 2000 crore in worldwide gross collections within months of release. India net figures have crossed 1000 crore, setting new benchmarks for Hindi cinema.
