Ameesha Patel takes a dig at younger actresses and PR culture: ‘Doing two average films doesn’t make you a superstar’ |
Ameesha Patel has seemingly taken a sharp dig at the younger generation of actresses and the growing PR culture in the film industry. The actress, who was recently stranded in Oman after her flight was diverted amid the UAE-Iran conflict, shared a series of strong opinions on social media about stardom, box office success and “fake PR machinery”.On Friday, Ameesha took to X and posted multiple tweets criticising what she described as “perception-building games” in the industry.
‘Call yourself a superstar only after creating history at the box office’
The actress first addressed negativity from YouTubers and trolls, saying stars should not feel affected by criticism.“Never feel bad or upset at certain negative YouTubers who always wake up with negativity and criticism for all the stars. We as stars should feel happy for them rather than getting affected… after all, by speaking ill about us, their kitchen is running,” she wrote.Ameesha then shifted focus towards actresses who, according to her, call themselves “superstars” without delivering major box office hits.“Call yourself a superstar only if you have achieved any sort of work that creates history and havoc at the box office. Until then stop playing PR games to call yourself a superstar. Sorry but that’s the harsh reality,” she posted.
‘Doing two average films yearly doesn’t make you a star’
The Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai actress further claimed that many actresses today have not delivered even a single solo blockbuster despite branding themselves as stars.“Loads of female actresses who haven’t even achieved one solo blockbuster in their careers till date are calling themselves stars. By doing two average films yearly and by being on some shooting sets, you don’t become a star. All you become is an actor who is part of projects,” Ameesha wrote. She also commented on the changing box office landscape and questioned actresses allegedly using PR teams to project themselves as top stars.“Most female actresses who haven’t even achieved one film in their career where even a single film of theirs has done 200 crore plus at the box office are paying their PR teams to call themselves number 1 and number 2? Like really? It’s 2026 and not 2000. Today 100 crore is nothing,” she added.
Ameesha cites ‘Gadar’ and ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ success
Ameesha Patel also highlighted her own filmography while speaking about superstardom and box office records.“A star becomes a global superstar only when he or she delivers a huge hit all over the world,” she wrote, before adding, “Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Gadar 1 or Gadar 2… ek nahin par 3 biggest solo blockbusters as a heroine with highest footfalls in all three films I’ve given.”The actress further stated that these films remain among the biggest hits of her co-stars’ careers as well.
‘Gadar 3 will create chaos in theatres’
Ending her post on an optimistic note, Ameesha also teased Gadar 3 and predicted massive box office numbers for the franchise.“Gadar 3 will come for sure and jab aayegi, theatre mein hungama mach jayega. With audience love and God’s blessings, 500 crore is just the minimum number at the box office for a brand like Gadar,” she wrote. She also promised that the upcoming instalment would be mounted on a much bigger scale with a more “dhamakedar” script.
Ameesha Patel was recently stranded in Oman
Ameesha’s remarks come shortly after her recent travel ordeal. The actress was reportedly stranded in Oman for nearly 24 hours after her flight was diverted due to escalating tensions between the UAE and Iran. She was travelling with DJ DJ Chetas and producer Kunal Goomer at the time. The actress eventually returned to Mumbai on Tuesday.
