Will Thalapathy Vijay starrer 'Jana Nayagan' release on Jan 9? Makers consider legal action over CBFC certification delay - Reports
Vijay’s highly anticipated film ‘Jana Nayagan’ faces a potential Pongal release delay as its censor certification remains pending. Despite submitting the movie a month ago and complying with suggested edits, the producers are reportedly considering legal action due to the prolonged wait. Political figures have also voiced concerns over the unexplained delay, adding to the suspense surrounding the film’s release.

H. Vinoth’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ starring Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Mamitha Baiju is ready to rock the box office during Pongal on January 9. One of the highly awaited releases in Pongal season, ‘Jana Nayagan’ had been the talk of the town for its political subject matter and the changes in the lead role of the hero, Vijay. But ahead of its release, the film seems to have met a speed bump with its censor certification.

‘Jana Nayagan’ certificate still pending

According to News 18, the producers had completed all the post-production work and presented the film for certification a month ago. Reportedly, the Central Board of Film Certification officials viewed the movie on December 19 and suggested some cuts and mute lines, among other suggestions. This isn’t new, but what is raising eyebrows is the delay in the release of the censor certificate, even after the team complied with the suggestions and resubmitted the movie.

Makers consider legal options

With just three days to go before the film’s release, the lack of a censor board certification has caused alarm among the film’s team. The report says that a conversation about approaching the court if the certification is not issued in time has started. The film’s late stage also led to intense speculation, with the massive number of logistical operations such as theatre and other distribution decisions, depending on the smooth completion of certification. Other reactions from political and fan circles on social media have also been triggered.

Censor delay triggers political reactions

Recently, the deputy general secretary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, CTR Nirmal Kumar, had questioned the delay publicly, saying that the censor board had already recommended a UA certificate for the film weeks ago and yet an official clearance wasn’t forthcoming. His comments pointed to some invisible hurdles and behind-the-scenes influence that spurred the debate on this further. The anxiety and suspense of the wait continue, and all eyes are now on the censor board’s decision. With Pongal looming, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is at a crucial juncture where an early-going result means its release is safe, or an unexpected kick reeling into the film for some unknown reasons.
